Exploring Dubrovnik’s Game of Thrones Tours: Is it Worth the Money?
According to word-of-mouth from fellow backpackers, the tours within the city are not worth the money, and it’s better to explore the area on your own as the sites are easily accessible. Dubrovnik is accessible by air, road, and sea. The city has an international airport, and buses and ferries connect it to various destinations.

The park is centrally located in Croatia, and buses connect it to major cities. The nearest airports are in Zagreb and Zadar. While its possible to do day trips from these cities, it’s worth spending the night to fully appreciate the stunning waterfalls.

Sibenik is a charming coastal city known its stunning Renaissance architecture. Explore the UNESCO-listed St. James Cathedral, a masterpiece blending Gothic and Renaissance styles.

The city is easily accessible by road, with buses connecting it to major cities. If you’re flying in, the closest airports are located in Split and Zadar. I did an overnight stop here on my way from Plitvice to Split.

Trogir is easily accessible by road, and it’s near Split Airport. I opted for a day trip and took an hour or so bus ride from Split.
Note on buses in the Balkans:
While Balkan buses are punctual for pick-up, arrival times can be a bit more, ahem, flexible. Think of it as embracing the laid-back Balkan charm!
To avoid any itinerary meltdowns, pack some extra patience and factor in some buffer time. This way, you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and roll with the flow of the open road.
6. Zagreb: Urban Exploration and Museum of Broken Relationships
Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, might surprise you! This vibrant city seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern energy, offering something for everyone. Even better, it’s the most budget-friendly city in Croatia – a win for thrifty travelers! A night out here won’t break the bank compared to Split or Dubrovnik.

This massive park offers a full day of exploration, with cascading waterfalls, hidden trails, and history around every bend. (We learned this the hard way – a late start meant we only saw one of the majestic falls!)
