If you’re looking for one of the most beautiful and underrated beaches in Southern California, Corona del Mar State Beach in Newport Beach should be at the top of your list. Tucked along the Newport shoreline, Corona del Mar (which fittingly means “Crown of the Sea”) offers the best of both worlds—wide sandy beaches for relaxing, rocky tidepools and coves for exploring, and some of the dreamiest sunset views you’ll find in Orange County.
What makes it even better? It’s usually less crowded than nearby beaches, and you can often score street parking—a rare win for California beach days. Whether you’re here for a coastal walk, a quiet spot to read, or to bring your dog along for a golden-hour stroll, Corona del Mar Beach is a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Pirates Cove Beach: A Hidden Paradise Beneath the Cliffs
A short detour from Inspiration Point leads to Pirates Cove Beach, one of Corona del Mar’s most unique hidden gems. Tucked between rocky cliffs and sea caves, this small sandy cove feels adventurous and secluded.

Reaching for the Lookout Point & Setting Up Camp
Continue a little bit further and we’ll reach the Corona del Mar Beach Lookout Point! This tiny park, often overlooked, offers a unique perspective. Both beaches in Corona Del Mar are accessible with a short walk down a paved path (although it can be pretty steep). Inspiration Point offers a convenient spot to rest and admire the panorama before continuing to the lookout point. Planning a California coast adventure with your pup? Corona del Mar State Beach is one of my favorite dog-friendly spots. It has designated beach access times, but I’ve definitely seen dogs outside of those hours, especially during shoulder season.
