Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) connects directly to major European cities, making it super convenient if you’re coming from abroad. Once you land, you’re just a short ride away from the heart of the city.
Bus: Opt for a budget-friendly bus journey, offering a comfortable and scenic ride through the Greek countryside. Several bus companies operate frequent services from Athens toThessaloniki plus other major Greek cities.
From the Airport to the City Center:
- 🚌 Budget-Friendly Bus: Hop on bus number 78 for a direct trip to the city center. It’s cheap (just a few euros) and also connects to the main KTEL Macedonia bus station if you need to travel onward.
- 💡 Insider tip: Ticket machines on the bus only accept coins and won’t give change, so keep some handy. And while locals sometimes skip buying tickets, it’s best to have one to avoid fines.

For backpackers, Zeus is Loose hostel is a top choice with its friendly atmosphere, amazing common areas and rooftop bar. Its perfect for digital nomads and is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at. 10/10 would recommend!
Boutique hotels like Colors Rooms and The Caravan B&B provide stylish, modern stays in restored older buildings. Right on the waterfront, The Met Hotel has luxury rooms with gorgeous sea views, along with multiple restaurants and a spa.
